Shearing Sheep with Jeff Burchstead
May 6 @ 10:00 am – 2:00 pm
Free to Students
Expert sheep shearer Jeff Burchstead visits College of the Atlantic’s Peggy Rockefeller Farms to demonstrate shearing techniques with the College’s flock of Romney sheep as part of COA’s Food & Farming Workshop Series.
Have you ever wondered how that comfy wool sweater or pair of socks got its start? If so, then come to Peggy Rockefeller Farms to experience the first steps of the sheep-to-shawl process.
Dress appropriately for weather and a barn setting, and be prepared to get your hands a dirty.
COA’s Food & Farming Workshop Series offers experiential, placed-based skills training for students and the broader MDI community. Held in various locations including COA’s farms, community garden, and dining hall, workshop topics range from sheep shearing to chainsaw maintenance to mushroom cultivation. Whether you’re a student, farmer, home gardener, or just a curious citizen, we welcome you to join us for a workshop.
Students attend for free and receive priority registration.
